Attached to our workshop is a drying area for wood we have processed from logs. Drying in stacks with sticks separating them are layers of osage orange, sea grape, local old-growth cherry, Chautauqua Co maple and fruitwoods including apple, plum and pear. We also use Pennsylvania cherry, big leaf maple from Oregon, New York State curly maple and birdseye maple from Michigan’s upper peninsula.
Mike’s abilities as a carpenter contribute to his accomplishments as a woodworker. The diverse qualities of wood, from its structural strength to its enduring beauty, inspire this skilled craftsman. The right finish brings out the colors, hues and variations of the grain. Roz performs the many sandings this step requires. Between the last three sandings, each piece is coated with an FDA - approved penetrating finishing oil.
