PROCESS INFORMATION
From tree to tool-----------Many steps in the process.
TOP
We create tools that work on both a functional and an aesthetic level.
We use mainly hardwoods, some purchased, some foraged. Our sources
are as diverse as the species we work with. Each tree has its own unique qualities that result in a one-of-a-kind object.
Mike uses a band-saw and pneumatic drum sanders to shape most
of the pieces. When creating the free-form bowls and ladles, he usesspoon gouges and a mallet to hollow out the form.
Roz uses a rotating flap-wheel sander to smooth each piece and begin
the finishing process. An FDA approved food-safe oil is applied betweenthe 220, 320 & 400 grit sandings. The result of many hand and power sandings is a smooth durable treasure suitable for everyday use and enjoyment.
The beauty and diversity of hardwoods continue to challenge our skills and
influence our ever-evolving work.
Our work was included in the “Objects for use/Handmade by Design” book
and the 2001 exhibit at the American Craft Museum, N.Y., N.Y.We are also members of the IWCS (International Wood Collectors Society)
